Gravely ill dancer Pierre waits nervously for the heart transplant that will allow him to return to the stage, seeking scraps of comfort from his love-starved, social worker sister Elisa. She pursues a fleeting romance with local market trader Jean, whose relationship with ex-wife Caroline is an emotional minefield. Meanwhile, house-bound Pierre develops a voyeuristic obsession with a girl in the adjacent apartment block, pretty student Laetitia, who is enjoying an illicit affair with her university professor.
